Help using databases

These are some tips on using the various research databases now available.  All of the databases work in the same fashion.  Some of the databases are undergoing work on a daily basis with new material being added.  The layout of some the databases will change somewhat over time as we add the new material, however the way in which you use them will not change.

Tip #1

To Access each database simply click on the colored bar.  The example on the right shows the Obituaries being selected.  The number just to the right of each database name indicates the number of records currently in the database.

Tip #2

The default view of each database is a “table” of information – example shown below.  In addition to this table view you can click on any item in the table and see the “detailed” view.  This usually provides some additional such as when the data was updated, and more.  To return to the “table” view simply click on the “BACK”  button on the right.  DO NOT click the back arrow on your browser.

Tip #3

To search for a name or phrase simply type in the search box at the top right of the database you are viewing.  This search will find all instances of what you are searching for, not only last names.  If you search for a word such as Derby it will find all records that have Derby any where in the record.  If it is found in the table view the word will be highlighted.  If it is found in the detail view the record will be included in the search, however when you look at the detail view the phrase or word will be there, but not highlighted.

When the word is found it will highlight the word where it is found.  This could be in the table view or in the details view.  It both finds and filters the records that contain your search item.  If
