PEOPLE OF THE PAST - Nicholoson Name Prominent
Robert Nicholoson, a native of Dumfrieshire, Scotland, immigrated to Halifax with his family. Two years later he came to Miramichi and settled at Chatham where he worked at his profession as a tanner and currier. His wife was Anna Osborn, from England. Altogether they had twelve children of whom seven lived to maturity.
One of these children, John R. was an infant when he accompanied his parents to Halifax. After growing up in Chatham and being educated at local schools, he became an accountant.
He married Elizabeth Ritchie and they had eight children of whom we have a record of only five: James became a physician and practiced in Bathurst. He died at thirty years of age. Charles moved to Malone, N. Y. Osborn died in Newcastle. Sarah J. married George Brown. Robert, who was born in Chatham in 1865, became a physician and practiced in Newcastle.
After sixty-five years of married life John died in January of 1898 at 89 years and Elizabeth followed in June at 88 years.
