BAIE STE. ANNE MAN DROWNS
RCMP Sunday identified Armand Alex MARTIN, 62, of Baie Ste. Anne as the man who drowned Friday in the waters of Bay du Vin. RCMP said MARTIN left home about 1 p.m. Friday for a short trip in his dory which had a small out-board motor. The family alerted local Federal Fisheries Officers when MARTIN failed to return by early evening.
Fisheries Officers spotted MARTINs body floating in waters off the Bay du Vin shores. The boat was found beached. There is no evidence of foul play. The man was wearing hip waders but no life jacket when found.
An autopsy was performed at the request of the family. An inquest appears unlikely.
Born in Baie Ste. Anne, MARTIN was a son of the late Alex and Margaret [CHIASSON] MARTIN. He was a veteran of the Second World War and a fisherman by profession
He is survived by his wife, the former Theresa POIRIER; five sons: Robert, Roland and Guy, all of Baie Ste. Anne, Gilbert, of Black River Bridge, and Jacques, of Fredericton; two daughters, Mrs. Donat MARTIN [Jacqueline], and Mrs. Jean Marc THIBEAULT [Magolaine], both of Baie Ste. Anne; one brother, Augustin MARTIN, of Baie Ste. Anne; six sisters: Mrs. Wilfred MARTIN [Elizabeth], Mrs. Maurice MARTIN [Albertine], Mrs. Exilda McINTYRE, Mrs. Anna McINTYRE and Mrs. Adelia LIRETTE, all of Baie Ste. Anne, and Mrs. Lloyd WATLING [Loudie], of Centre Napan; 14 grandchildren.
The body rested at the Baie Ste. Anne Roman Catholic Church where a funeral mass was celebrated 4 p.m. Monday. Burial was in the church cemetery. Arrangements were in the care of Mahers Funeral Home, Chatham.
