James J. MANUEL, of Ferry Road, died Monday, April 15, 1985 at Hotel Dieu Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Baie Ste. Anne 83 years ago, he was a son of the late Neil and Mary [MERCURE] MANUEL. He was a fisherman, a veteran of the Second World War and a commissionaire following the war. He was a member of Branch No. 03, Royal Canadian Legion. He also operated a trailer park for a number of years.
He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Camille BOURQUE [Betty], of Shediac, Mrs. Harold DICKSON [Marina], of Chatham, and Mrs. Edison RUSSELL [Rita], of Douglastown; one son, Fidele, of Leominster, Mass.: one half-brother, Louis MANUEL; one half-sister, Mrs. Mary PELLERIN, both of Baie Ste. Anne; 23 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The body rested at Mahers Funeral Home, Chatham. Funeral mass was celebrated on Wednesday, April 17 from St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church with Rev. B.M. Broderick, Rev. T.J. McKendy and Rev. Peter Bagley officiating. The Legion Service was performed by Rev. R.J. Miller and the Last Post was sounded.
The pallbearers were: Del MANUEL, James MANUEL, Brad RUSSELL, David, Billy and Buddy DICKSON.
Burial will be in the church cemetery later in the spring.
