BAIE STE. ANNE MAN KILLED IN TRAFFIC MISHAP
Jean-Marie LIRETTE, 26, of Baie Ste. Anne, died on Friday evening about 8:35 p.m. when the vehicle he was driving eastward on highway 117 collided with the back of a loaded pulp truck turning into a private driveway. The passenger in LITETTEs vehicle, Gedeon Manuel, 25, of Escuminac, was transferred to Moncton Hospital for what RCMP termed serious injuries.
The truck driver, Lorne Ferguson, 38, of Centre Napan, was reported to have been uninjured.
The accident occurred near Black River Bridge. The upper portion of the car was sheared off with the vehicle lodging itself underneath the rear of the truck. The impact was strong enough to damage part of the rear axle portion of the truck and bend the frame, RCMP said. Firefighters, using specialized rescue equipment, had to cut through part of the cars roof support and rip out the dashboard section to free LIRETTE who was pronounced dead on Arrival at hospital. No autopsy was requested and a coroners inquest is not expected to be called.
Born in Baie Ste. Anne, LIRETTE was a son of Adelie [MARTIN] and the late Edgar LIRETTE. He was a fisherman by profession.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife; four brothers: Abel, Francois and Charles, all of Baie Ste. Anne, and Emelin LIRETTE, of Caraquet; eight sisters: Mrs. Florentine MERSEREAU, Mrs. Ferdinand DAIGLE [Andrea], Mrs. Alfred SAVOIE [Gilberte], Mrs. Wilbert MARTIN [Rose Marie], Mrs. Antoine SIPPLEY [Bertha], Miss Mavielle LIRETTE and Miss Rachel LIRETTE, all of Baie Ste. Anne, and Mrs. Marc WILLISTON [Elda], of Hardwicke.
The body rested at Baie Ste. Anne Roman Catholic Church where funeral mass was celebrated Monday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring. Arrangements were in the care of Mahers Funeral Home, Chatham.

LIRETTE IS KILLED IN ACCIDENT; MANUELS CONDITION IS SERIOUS -
Jean-Marie LIRETTE, 26, of Baie Ste. Anne, was killed Friday evening after the car he was driving was in a collision with a pulp truck in Black River.
Newcastle RCMP said LIRETTE was driving a 1982 Honda Civic when it struck the rear end of a loaded pulp truck around 8:35 pm. The truck, driven by Lorne FERGUSON, 38, of RR 1 Chatham, was making a right turn into a driveway when the accident occurred. Both vehicles were travelling eastward towards Baie Ste. Anne at the time.
A passenger in the Lirette vehicle, Gedeon MANUEL, 25, of Escuminac, was treated at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Chatham, and transferred to Moncton Hospital later that night. His condition is listed as serious. The driver of the truck and a passenger, four-year-old Darren FERGUSON, escaped injury.
Damage to the Honda was estimated at $5,000, while damage to the truck was considered minimal.

FUNERAL -
The body of Jean-Marie LIRETTE, who died in an automobile collision Friday, Jan. 11, 1985, rested at Baie Ste. Anne Roman Catholic Church where mass was celebrated Monday afternoon, Jan. 14 by Rev. Jean Guy Dallaire.
Honorary pallbearers were: Alfred SAVOIE, Ferdinand DAIGLE, Mack WILLISTON, Antoine SIPPLEY, Gervais MANUEL, Aietan MANUEL, Kevin MERSEREAU and Dale McINTYRE. Active pallbearers were: Charlie, Emilien, Francois and Abel LIRETTE, Charles RICHARD and Henri MARTIN.
Burial will take place in the parish cemetery in the spring. Arrangements were in the care of Mahers Funeral Home, Chatham.
