Philip Arthur KING, husband of Joan [DUTHIE] KING, of Douglastown, NB, passed away suddenly on arrival at the Miramichi Regional Hospital, on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at the age of 65. Born in Newcastle, on December 28, 1940, he was the son of Margaret [McCAFFERTY] KING and the late Philip KING Sr. [1984]. Philie was a licenced embalmer and was employed at Bells Funeral Home for several years. He later worked as a counsellor with the Alcoholism and Drug Dependency Commission of NB, and then as a maintenance worker at Region 7 Hospital prior to his retirement in 2000. He enjoyed music and played the saxophone in a local band, The Limelighters in the 70s. Philie enjoyed being in the company of his many friends and had a great sense of humor.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife; two sons; Jamie [Yolanda], of Prince George, BC, Paul, of ON; and one daughter, Lisa ESTY [Glenn], of Russellville, NB; four grandchildren: Matthew KING, of Miramichi, Jordan and Michael KING, of Prince George, BC, and Dylan ESTY, of Russellville, NB; one sister, Ella Marie RICHARD [Robert], of Chatham; sisters-in-law: Opal WILLIAMSON [Paul], Bernice EGERS [Ralph], Edwina McDONALD [Bud].
Besides his father, Philip, he is predeceased by an infant son and daughter; brother-in-law, Clayton [Vera]; mother- and father-in-law, Helen and Lawrence DUTHIE.
Visitation at Northumberland Funeral Home on Tuesday and Wednesday, with vigil prayers at 8:30, led by Father Samuel Diotte. Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Marys Roman Catholic Church, at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, with Father Sam Diotte officiating. Readings were done by Sister Kathleen Chisholm and Trudy Walsh. Organist, Mary Butler, accompanied St. Marys Sr. Choir with the hymns: The Lord My Shepherd Rules My Life, You Are Near, Lord Make Us Servants of Your Peace, Songs Of The Angels, and Amazing Grace.
Active pallbearers were: Howard AUGUSTINE, Scotty BERNARD, Ralph CAMPBELL, Hugh KIRKPATRICK, Bud McDONALD and Steven ROSS. Honorary pallbearers were: Jim HAYTER, John DORAN, Bud TAYLOR, John CINCURAK, Ron [Squeak] STEEVES, Brian McLEAN, and Harold MOORE.
A graveside service was held at St. Marys Roman Catholic Church Cemetery followed by interment. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Arrangements were under the care of Northumberland Funeral Home, Miramichi. Telephone 622-7741.
