George Allan ALEXANDER, of Newcastle, died Wednesday, August 27, at his home 674 King George Highway. Born at Douglastown 81 years ago, he was a son of the late John and Margaret (ANDERSON) ALEXANDER. His wife, the former Lydia COPP, died five years ago. He was a member of Northumberland Lodge No. 17 F and AM as well as of Branch No. 10 Royal Canadian Legion, and was a lifelong employee of Atlantic Wholesalers Limited, Newcastle Branch.<br /> <br /> He is survived by two sons: Bruce, of Edmonton, AB, Kenneth, of Port Hawkesbury, NS; four daughters: Mrs. Robert BOWNESS [Margaret] and Mrs. K.L. DUNPHY [Janet], both of Moncton, Mrs. Richard COSTIGAN [Beryl], of Pointe Claire, Que., and Mrs. William ANDERSON [Joan], of Newcastle; 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.<br /> <br /> The body rested at Bells Funeral Home, from where a Masonic service was held on Friday evening with funeral service held in the chapel on Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W.R. Bowering. Organist was Mrs. Eugene Kukulski. A committal service under auspices of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 10 was conducted by Major S. J. Campbell.<br /> <br /> Pallbearers were: Robert BOWNESS, K. L. DUNPHY, Richard COSTIGAN, J. A. H. [Junior] MacNEILL, Stephen STUART, and John GRAY.<br /> <br /> Interment was in Miramichi Cemetery.<br /> <br /> Among those attending the funeral from a distance were: Kenneth ALEXANDER, Port Hawkesbury, N. S., Mr. and Mrs. Robert BOWNESS and children, Drew and Nancy, Mr. and Mrs. K. L. DUNPHY, J. A. H. MacNEILL and son Jackie, Mr. and Mrs. Roy STUART and sons, Stephen, Robin, and Peter, Mr. and Mrs. David MacINTYRE, all of Moncton, Mr. and Mrs. Richard COSTIGAN, Pointe Claire, Que., Mr. and Mrs. Carvell STURGEON, Sussex, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. PENTLAND, Saint John, and Mr. and Mrs. Fergus FULLERTON, Campbellton.<br /> <br /> Source: North Shore Leader - September 6, 1973
