PROMINENT LUMBERMAN DIES AT BLACKVILLE
The death of Archibald ALCORN, prominent Blackville lumberman and businessman, occurred at his home there Saturday night from heart failure.
He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Tina VYE; one son, Archibald, of the CNR Shops, Moncton; and five daughters: Helen [Mrs. John HUNTER], of Moncton, Alberta, of Bridgeport, CT, Jean, of Moncton, Alvida and Katherine, at home.
The funeral was held from the residence in Blackville to the United Church Cemetery under Masonic auspices. Service was conducted by Rev. Mr. Swan, of Doaktown, assisted by Rev. Mr. Bell of Upper Blackville.
Among the chief mourners were Archibald ALCORN, Jr., Dr. J. BEATON, Dr. George LAYTON and John HUNTER, of Moncton, E. S. V. JOHNSON, John McKAY, Peter McLEAN, Addington VYE, Stanley TOZER and Clifford CROCKER.
Some out of town guests attending the funeral were Sheriff SKIDD, of Chatham, Deputy Sheriff COPP, of Newcastle, Warden F.A. MENZIES, of Whitney, Frank SWIM, Aklerley HOLMES and George HINTON, of Doaktown, Mayor CREAGHAN and W. H. DAVIDSON, of Newcastle.
The more than 200 pupils of the Blackville Superior School [of which the late Mr. ALCORN had been a trustee] marched in a body at the funeral home.
Honorary pallbearers were: Andrew McCABE, Patrick VICKERS, J. P. QUINN, Ward CORNEY, Victor DUNPHY and F. JARDINE. Pallbearers were: Frederick HUGHES, Wilbur CONNORS, Justice WALLS, B. N. UNDERHILL, Frederick UNDERHILL and James McKENZIE.
D.S. McPhail was funeral director.
