Rev. William AITKEN, passed away at his home in Newcastle, NB, on Sat. last, at the age of seventy-three years. Mr. AITKEN was a native of Linlithgowshire, Scotland, and on completing his college course he emigrated to Ontario, where he married Miss NOBLE, of Maple, near Toronto. After a ministry of fifteen years in ON, he was called to St. James Presbyterian Church, Newcastle, in 1880, where he served for twenty-three years.
On resigning this charge some ten years ago he continued to reside among his former parishioners. For some years past he had been failing in health. Mr. AITKEN belonged to an old type of Scottish minister. He was an eloquent preacher, kind and hospitable, and exercised a wide influence among the Presbyterians of the Miramichi.
He leaves a widow; four daughters; five sons, among whom is Sir Max AITKEN, of London, England.
