NO INQUEST IN HIGHWAY DEATH -
There will be no inquest into the weekend death of John D. DUPLESSIS, 49, a native of Eel River Bridge, who had been residing in Saint John. He was struck by a car driven by John P. Melanson, of Barrington, N.S., at approximately 9 p.m. Saturday at Laketon, near St. Margarets, as he walked into the path of an oncoming car when he endeavored to cross the highway. He died Sunday morning in Hotel Dieu here.
Coroner Dr. P.J. Losier said an inquest would not be necessary.
Mr. DUPLESSIS was visiting in the area when the incident occurred.
The victim was a veteran of the Second World War and was of Roman Catholic faith. He was born at Eel River Bridge, a son of the late Benjamin and Bridget Ann [McINTYRE] DUPLESSIS.
Surviving are his wife, the former Elizabeth CHAISSON, of Saint John; two sisters, Mrs. James MILLER, of Chatham, and Mrs. John ROY, of Saint John; two brothers, Joseph and Leslie, of Saint John.
The remains rested at Adams Funeral Home where the funeral was held on Tuesday morning at 10 oclock to the Roman Catholic Church at Baie Ste. Anne, where requiem mass was celebrated and interment was made in the church cemetery.
