Francis DESPRES, of Baie Ste. Anne, died Tuesday morning, November 20, 1984 at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Chatham after a lengthy illness. Born in Baie Ste. Anne 61 years ago, he was a son of the late Henry and Osith [DURELLE] DESPRES. He was a welder. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas with the North Shore [New Brunswick] Regiment.
He is survived by his wife, the former Janet DURELLE; a son, Francis Jr., of Baie Ste. Anne; four daughters: Brenda, Joyce, Judy and Nicole, all at home; four brothers: Israel, Arcade and Alonzo, all of Baie Ste. Anne, and Joseph, of Bathurst; two sisters, Mrs. Joseph MANUEL [Aneda], of Baie Ste. Anne, and Mrs. Leonard ROBICHAUD [Aurora], of Saint John.
The body rested at the slumber room of the Baie Ste. Anne Roman Catholic Church. Funeral mass was celebrated at the church Thursday afternoon, Nov. 22 by Father Alphonse Richard.
Honorary pallbearers were: Neri MARTIN, Israel DURELLE, Ludovic MANUEL, Eric DURELLE, Jean-Claude RICHARD and Aquila DESPRES. Active pallbearers were: Ronnie DURELLE, AQUILA MANUEL, Joseph DESPRES Jr., Henri DESPRES, Paul ROBICHAUD and Renald DESPRES.
Branch No. 3 Royal Canadian Legion members and veterans held a memorial service at the cemetery under the direction of Renee MARTIN. The Last Post was sounded. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Arrangements were in the care of Mahers Funeral Home, Chatham.
