One of Newcastle's oldest residents, Mrs. Addie, MacALLISTER, widow of the late Irvin MacALLISTER, passed away at her home, King George Highway, on Thursday morning, Nov. 21st, after a short illness. Although she had been in failing health for over a year, she was confined to bed for only four days previous to her death.
The late Mrs. MacALLISTER was born at Lyttleton, Little Southwest Miramichi, 92 years ago, a daughter of James and Mary (GODFREY) SOMERS. She resided in the Miramichi area all her lifetime with the exception of a few years as a young woman, which she spent in St. Paul, Minnesota, where she studied music. She was well-known music teacher and in her younger days gave generously of her time and talent as a pianist, organist and singer. She had lived in Newcastle for the past 33 years.
Surviving are a son and daughter, E. Feldman MacALLISTER of Newcastle, and Miss Mina MacALLISTER, at home; and a brother, Burton F. SOMERS of Newcastle; 12 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren also survive.
Her husband died nearly five years ago, and a son, and two daughters, predeceased her.
The funeral was held on Saturday afternoon and was very largely attended. The service was conducted by Rev. J. L. Knowles, pastor of the United Baptist Church, assisted by Rev. J.A. Vienneau. Favorite hymns were sung by a mixed choir with Howard Holmes as soloist and Mrs. W. C. Francis, accompanist.
Interment was made in the family lot in the Miramichi cemetery, the bearers being ...... incomplete
