The sympathy of friends in Strathadam and surrounding districts go out to Mr. and Mrs. Edward CURTIS, Jr., in the tragic death of their nine-year-old daughters, Winona Mary. On Tuesday afternoon the little girl was sent to meet the Newcastle Red Bank bus, near her home, and take delivery of a parcel. After receiving the parcel from the bus driver the victim stepped from behind the bus, into the centre of the roadway, in front of a truck driven by Roy Sobey, Maple Glen. The driver of the truck did not have time to avoid hitting the child. Dr. F. G. Wilson of Red Bank was summoned and the injured girl was rushed to the Miramichi Hospital, Newcastle, where she died at eleven o’clock Tuesday night. RCMP investigated the accident and exonerated the driver of the truck from any blame.<br /> <br /> Surviving are the parents, four sisters: Verna, Shirrel, Shirley and Margaret; and two brothers, Wesley and Edward. <br /> <br /> The funeral services took place at 2:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon from the home with Rev. Mr. Wood, Baptist minister of Whitneyville officiating.<br /> <br /> Source: North Shore Leader - December 14, 1945
