DIED WHEN FIRE DESTROYED HOME AT BARNABY RIVER
Adrian GRENNAN died at Barnaby River on Wednesday night, February 5th, when fire destroyed his small frame home. Mr. GRENNAN lived alone in the house and was the lone occupant of the house when the blaze started. Newcastle detachment RCMP investigated the fire. Coroner John Dupuis of Newcastle ruled an autopsy or inquest unnecessary. Chatham firemen arrived at the fire scene at about 11:45 pm but found the house engulfed in flames. Firefighting efforts were hampered by below-zero temperatures and high winds. Mr. GRENNAN had moved into the house several months ago after his previous home had also been destroyed by fire.
Born in Barnaby River 52 years ago, he was a son of the late James and Catherine (HARRIGAN) GRENNAN. He was unmarried and is survived by two brothers and three sisters: Henry GRENNAN, Mrs. Joseph BUTLER (Grace), and Mrs. John BOHAN (Theresa) of Barnaby River, Vincent GRENNAN of Fort William, Ontario, and Miss Rita GRENNAN, Montreal.
The funeral was held Saturday morning from the home of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. John BOHAN, to the Church of the Most Pure Heart of Mary. Requiem Mass was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. H. C. Elhatton. Rev. E. J. Casey, St. Thomas University, Fredericton, Rev. B. M. Broderick, Nelson-Miramichi and Rev. H. W. McGrath, Loggieville, were present in the sanctuary.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were: Lyman HARRIGAN, Brian DONAHUE, Joseph GILL, John BUTLER, Blair BOHAN and James GRENNAN. Honorary pallbearers were: Gerald, Clement and Donald GILL, Benedict GAFFNEY, Thomas ESSON and John MURPHY.
Coming to Barnaby River for the funeral in addition to Rev. Dr. Casey were Miss Rita GRENNAN, Montreal, Mrs. Ambrose GRENNAN, Mr. and Mrs. James GRENNAN, Mr. and Mrs. David GUITARD, Mr. and Mrs. Jack LEGACY, Jacquet River, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond BURNS, Bathurst, Miss Eleanor BOHAN, Campbellton and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas ESSON, Moncton.
