The body of a 34-year-old Chatham resident, A. Campbell McLEAN, was discovered early Wednesday morning partially submerged in the Miramichi River on the western outskirts of Loggieville. A spokesman for the Newcastle detachment RCMP, who investigated, said Mr. McLean’s body was found several feet away from his car which had apparently plunged from Route 117, 60 feet down an embankment into the river. The body was found at approximately 5 am. Coroner Dr. P. J. Losier viewed the scene and ordered an autopsy and inquest unnecessary. Loggieville is about three miles east of Chatham.<br /> <br /> Born in Chatham, Mr. McLEAN was the son of Mrs. Pearl (GROAT) McLEAN. A well-known Chatham resident, Mr. McLEAN had attended Chatham schools and had graduated from St. Thomas University, UPI in Virginia and the Steed School of Business. He was a broker for the Montreal firm of Merril Lynch Co. He was an ardent fisherman and athlete.<br /> <br /> Besides his mother he is survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.<br /> <br /> The body is resting at his late residence on Shiriff Street. The funeral will be held from there Friday at 2 pm. Campbell McLEAN, who lost his life in a motor accident near Loggieville, was held from the residence on Shirreff Street. The service was conducted by Rev. R J. Miller, assisted by the choir of St. Andrews’ United Church. The hymns sung were: Rock of Ages and Safe In The Arms of Jesus.<br /> <br /> Honorary pallbearers were: R. A. WALLS, Harry SPROUL, L. J. LOGGIE, F. E. JORDAN, Chandler LOBBAN, G. A. DUNCAN, J. Robert MARTIN, Carl HILCHEY, Joseph DUFFY, William WALLS, Sydney TREVORS, F. E. KANE and Robert JACOBSON. Active pallbearers were: Vernon POTTER, Daryl MacTAVISH, Hazen LOGGAN, Dennis DUNCAN, Randolph SIMPSON and William HILCHEY.<br /> <br /> Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.<br /> <br /> Mr. McLEAN was a member of St. Andrews’ United Church, Graduate of St. Thomas High and of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the Steed College of Business. He was a broker with Merrill-Lynch Co., Montreal.
