DROWNED
Last Sat. a group of young people were relaxing on a hot summers day near Bay du Vin. Charles HARPER and his friends, Gerald and Kenneth ADAMS, rowed out in a small boat to a larger ship anchored in deep water and spent a few hours there. When a breeze sprang up, the three men took to the rowboat and started for shore. Two were in the boat while Kenneth swam alongside.
The boat capsized and the difficulty was seen by friends on shore. Lyle FOWLIE took a small aluminum rowboat to the rescue. By this time, Kenneth had his brother and Charles HARPER clinging to their upturned boat.
Calamity struck again when the aluminum boat also capsized and all four young men were in the rough water.
Kenneth ADAMS and Lyle FOWLIE were able to swim to shore, but the other two men, Gerald ADAMS and Charles HARPER, both age 20, drowned.
Gerald ADAMS was a bridegroom of nine days.
