Alphonse DAIGLE, of Baie Ste. Anne, died Wednesday evening, May 04, 1988, at the Hotel Dieu Hospital, Chatham, after a lengthy illness. Born in Pointe Sapin, 62 years ago, he was a son of Agnes (DOIRON) and the late Sylvain DAIGLE. He was a carpenter and fisherman, a veteran of the World War II and a member of Chatham Branch No. 3, Royal Canadian Legion.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, the former Susan MARTIN; three sons, Edmund, Jacques and Gregoire, all of Baie Ste. Anne; two daughters, Gisele and Noella, both of Baie Ste. Anne; seven brothers: Angus, Robert and Nazaire, all of St. Louis, Armand, of Richibucto, Noel, of Bathurst and Gregoire, of Montreal; five sisters: Mrs. Wilfred McINTYRE (Annie) and Miss Catherine DAIGLE, both of Baie Ste. Anne, Mrs. Claude DesJARDINS (Leonie) and Mrs. Jean Louis CHARTRAND (Elize), both of Montreal and Mrs. Joseph CHIASSON (Clementine), of Bay du Vin; two grandsons.
The body rested at Baie Ste. Anne Roman Catholic Church, where funeral mass was celebrated Saturday afternoon, May 7th, with Rev. Alphonse Richard officiating. Members and veterans of Chatham Branch No. 3, Royal Canadian Legion, held a Legion Service under the direction of Roger Carroll. The Last Post was sounded.
Honorary pallbearers were: Jim EYLES, Alvin DURELLE, William HITCHMAN, Aurele PELLERIN, Claude DesJARDINS and Ward McINTYRE. Active pallbearers were: Alfred and Seden McINTYRE, Clarence MANUEL, Gerald DAIGLE, Rona CORMIER and Serge DesJARDINS.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Arrangements were in the care of Maher’s Funeral Home, Chatham.
