Mrs. Astrid Margaret ADAMS, widow of the late E. Davis ADAMS, of Fenton St., Miramichi, passed away at the Miramichi Regional Hospital on Sunday, January 21, 2018, at the age of 92.
Born in Saint John, NB, on December 28, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Nina GUSTAVSEN. She was a homemaker, a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Miramichi, a life member of the A.C.W, a life member of the Miramichi Chapter of the Eastern Star, a former councillor for the former Town of Chatham, a former District and Provincial Commissioner and life member of the Girl Guides of Canada, a member of the Communities in Bloom, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, a member of the I.O.D.E. and co-owner of Adam’s Funeral Home. Margaret was an avid gardener, she followed in her father’s passion for being outdoors, digging in the ground and watching a plant grow.
She is survived by two daughters, Astrid JOWETT of Burnham, England and Christine ADAMS of Miramichi; three sons, D. Brandt ADAMS (Donna), Allen ADAMS and John ADAMS (Sandy), all of Miramichi; seven grandchildren: Stephen, David, Michael, Andrew, Ashley, Andrea and Beverly; three great-grandchildren, Maggie, Max and Sophie: one sister, Betty LORDLY (Donald) of Halifax, NS; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, E. Davis ADAMS, in 1995; one son-in-law, Dr. Christopher JOWETT; two sisters, Aase GUSTAVSEN and Bodil LYNN; five brothers: Ted GUSTAVSEN, Mogens GUSTAVSEN, Preben GUSTAVSEN, William (Bill) GUSTAVSEN, John GUSTAVSEN; one brother-in-law, John ADAMS; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor ADAMS and Margaret ROBIDOUX.
Members of the Miramichi Chapter of the Eastern Star held a service at the funeral home on Wednesday evening.
Visitation was at Adam’s Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St, Miramichi, on Tuesday and Wednesday. Funeral service was held from St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Miramichi, on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at 2 pm, conducted by Rev. Perry Cooper, assisted by Rev. Deacon Eddie Quann and Rev. Deacon Teddy Quann. Music for the service was provided by Mrs. Charlotte Loggie and St. Mary’s choir. The hymns were: Lead Kindly Light, Walk Softly In Springtime and Fairest Lord Jesus. The recessional hymn was the: Nunc Dimittis. A tribute to Margaret was presented by Mrs. Carmel HAMBROOK and the Scriptures were read by Andrea BOWES and Beverly BOWES.
The pallbearers were: Allen ADAMS, Brandt ADAMS, John ADAMS, Andrew ADAMS, Andrew LORDLY and Matthew LORDLY.
Members of the Girl Guides, Eastern Star and A.C.W sat as a body for the service. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, later in the spring. Donations to the Marg ADAMS Benevolent Fund c/o the Miramichi Treffoil Guild of the Girl Guides would be appreciated by the family.
