A shock to the community was the sudden death yesterday of Lemuel H. ABBOTT, chairman of the board of assessors for the town of Chatham for several years past, and one of its best known and most highly respected citizens. The late Mr. ABBOTT, who was 76 years of age, had been ill only about one week and his sudden death was quite a shock to his many friends. For years Mr. ABBOTT was a Government Fishery Overseer, and a few years ago retired. He was a prominent member in the I.O.O.F. Society and held offices in it for years. He was a member of the United Church of Chatham.
Mr. ABBOTT is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Margaret McLEAN; two sons, William of Minet, Wash. and Ernest of Truro, NS. Two granddaughters and two grandsons, children of his late son, Frederick, who made the supreme sacrifice overseas, also survive.
The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock to Riverside Cemetery, service at his late residence by Rev. G. A. Christie at 2:30 o’clock.
