Louis POIRIER, 42, of Baie Ste. Anne was killed Saturday in a snowmobile mishap near his home. Newcastle R.C.M.P. said Mr. POIRIER was out snowmobiling with companions when he apparently lost control and fell into the path of a second snowmobile following close behind.<br /> <br /> Police said the mishap occurred about 7 pm along the snow-covered frozen bay. Name of the second man, who was not injured, was not released. Mr. POIRIER was pronounced dead on arrival at Chathams’ Hotel Dieu Hospital shortly after the mishap. An autopsy was conducted Sunday in Moncton. An investigation is continuing.<br /> <br /> Born in Baie Ste. Anne, Louis POIRIER was a son of Bruno and Catherine (MAZEROLLE) POIRIER. He was a self-employed boat mover.<br /> <br /> Besides his parents, he is survived by his wife, Jacinthe MANUEL; a son, Philip; and a daughter, Caroline, both at home; seven brothers: Albertin, Alphonse, Wilfred, Roland and Gabriel, all of Baie Ste. Anne, Gerald of St. Margarets, and Ronald, of Winnipeg; seven sisters: Mrs. Thomas TAIT (Ida) and Mrs. Guy ROSS (Rolande), Both of Vancouver, Mrs. Joseph BARLOW (Jean), of Victoria, BC, Mrs. Jean-Guy RICHARD (Aline), of Moncton, Verna POIRIER and Laruriel POIRIER, both of Montreal, and Mrs. Dan McCARTHY (Annette), of Newcastle.<br /> <br /> The body rested at Baie Ste. Anne Roman Catholic Church where funeral mass was celebrated Tuesday. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring. Anne, was celebrated Tuesday, February 7th at Baie Ste. Anne Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Alphonse Richard officiating assisted by Rec. Fidele LeBlanc and Rev. Robert Allain.<br /> <br /> The active pallbearers were: Donald MANUEL, Del DOUCETTE, John McINTYRE Jr., Paul MARTIN, Andrew TURBIDE and Yvon RICHARD. The honorary pallbearers were: Gatian MANUEL, Joel MANUEL, Aubert MANUEL, Etienne MANUEL, Jean Rene MANUEL, Rodd SMITH, Raymond O’NIELL, Albain MAZEROLLE, Wayne NOBLE and Bernard MAZEROLLE.<br /> <br /> Burial will be in the parish cemetery in the spring.
