It is with deep regret that all learned of the death and funeral of Samuel J. L. McKNIGHT of Napan. He died on May 2nd last and was buried in St. Stephens United Church Cemetery, Black River Bridge, on May 4th. At the funeral, which was held at his home in Napan, conducted by his minister, the Rev. Peter Jackson, a large number of friends assembled to pay their last respects to one who was much respected and much beloved. Of a quiet, gentle disposition, his loss will be felt by all around. He occupied several positions in connection with Napan United Church. For many years he was the Senior Elder, Leader of Praise and other duties which he carried out in his unassuming manner. Rev. Mr. Jackson mentioned in his address the Christian hope and reward which God has prepared for all who love him.<br /> His sorrowing relatives are as follows, his son and wife, Frank and Mrs. MacKNIGHT and family, with whom he resided up to his death; a sister, Mrs. Howard MacDONALD, Mass.; a son, Perley MacKNIGHT, Mass.; a daughter, Mrs. Ernest JARDINE and husband, of Napan.<br /> The following hymns were sung at the funeral by the Napan Choir assisted by other friends: The Lord is My Shepherd, Jesus Keep Me Near the Cross, Unto the Hills and Do I Lift Up My Longing Eyes.<br /> Pallbearers were: Walter MacKNIGHT, Ronald MacINNIS, Mac DICKSON, Walter CAMPBELL, Fowlie DICKSON and Roy MacDONALD.<br /> Source: Chatham Tri-Weekly Gazette - May 19, 1943
