The death of Donald Anthony JIMMO, husband of the late Mary R. [Jean] [SWIFT] JIMMO, occurred at the Veterans Health Unit on Tuesday, September 27, 2011. Born over north in Escuminac, NB, son of the late Henry and Annie [GUIMOND] JIMMO. Don was a proud decorated veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. His company, The North Shore Regiment, had the distinction of participating in the 1st Wave that stormed Juno Beach on D Day, June 6, 1944. Following the war and return to Canada, Don continued working in the military and later with the Federal Government for a total of 37 years service. He was an avid curler, card player and outdoorsman. He will be remembered as an honorable man with a twinkle in his eye and faithful friend to many.
A father to his two daughters, Beth HARRIS [Cellvyn], of Fredericton, NB, and Anna Louise JIMMO-DIXON [Bill], of Campbell River, BC; a grandfather to, Zakary DIXON, Kate DIXON and Jack HARRIS; a brother to three sisters, Alice ALBERT, Mabel ALLAIN and Rita MANUEL.
He was predeceased by his wife, Jean; his parents; three brothers, Art, Bill and Henry; and two sisters, Ethel and Myrtle.
At the Veterans Health Unit, Don enjoyed the comraderie of his fellow veterans and the warmth of the staff who made his final residence a home.
The family will receive visitors at McAdams Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton on Friday, September 30, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Dunstans Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, October 1st, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Fr. J.J. Dolan as celebrant. Interment will take place in the Hermitage Cemetery. Tributes made to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. www.mcadamsfh.com
