Gordon J. ADAMS, of Black River Bridge, died Thursday, March 19, 1987 at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Chatham following a lengthy illness. Born in Black River Bridge 65 years ago, he was a son of George and the late Mary (LaBELLE) ADAMS. He was a farmer and woods-worker by trade and attended St. Stephens United Church, Black River Bridge.<br /> <br /> Besides his father, he is survived by his wife, the former Elizabeth MacLEOD, of Bay du Vin; seven daughters: Mrs. Thomas WILCOX (Eunice), of Montreal, Mrs. William SIMPSON (Winnie) and Norma ADAMS, both of Chatham, Mrs. Robert BARRY (Marguerite), of Canterbury, Hilda ADAMS, of Saint John, Christine and Pauline, both at home; six sons: George, Donald and Dennis, all at home, Arthur, of Centre Napan, Brian, of Douglastown, and Alfred, of Newcastle; five sisters: Mrs. Donald ERSKINE (Gertrude), of Truro, NS, Mrs. Jack HAMILTON (Rena), Mrs. Frank BELDING (Eunice) and Miss Annie ADAMS, all of Black River Bridge, and Mrs. Bernie WILLISTON (Alice), of Fredericton; two brothers, Walter, of Black River Bridge, and Curtis, of Chatham Head; 17 grandchildren, a great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.<br /> <br /> The body rested at Adams Funeral Home, Chatham. Funeral service was held Sunday afternoon, March 22 at St. Stephens United Church with Renford MacKenzie officiating assisted by a son-in-law, Rev. Robert BARRY of Canterbury. The organist was Mrs. Agnes Fowlie and the hymns were: Abide With Me and What a Friend We Have in Jesus.<br /> <br /> Honorary pallbearers were: Melvin ADAMS, John GODFREY, Cloran MacDONALD, Theodore FOWLIE, Edgar FOWLIE and Andrew MacLEOD. Active pallbearers were six sons: George, Arthur, Brian, Alfred, Dennis and Donald ADAMS.<br /> <br /> Burial will be in the Black River Cemetery later in the spring.<br /> <br /> Source: Northumberland News - March 25, 1987
