ROBICHAUD DIES FOLLOWING SURGERY
Friends and family of Adam ROBICHAUD flocked to St. Michaels Basilica on Thursday morning for a final farewell. The 16-year-old died following a complicated operation at the Isaac Walton Killam hospital in Halifax. He was the oldest son of Linda and Albert ROBICHAUD. His only brother, Alan, is 14-years-old.
Adam had a brain stem operation on Friday, June 13. They drained a fluid buildup, but Adam didnt respond. He never recovered, said his grieving grandmother, Theresa LOUSIER, on Wednesday. Adam passed away on Monday, June 23, she said.
ROBICHAUD was born with spina bifida and was only to live a few months. His last operation at the IWK hospital in Halifax was his 22nd. Doctors had given him a 50/50 chance of survival.
We all knew Adam wasnt supposed to be with us very long, but he stayed for 16 years and we are very thankful, LOUSIER said. He was such a happy child who knew just about everyone. His parents were super parents. They took him everywhere and did everything with him. Alan was the best brother in the world?they were very close, she said. Alan was always on the Internet. He joined the Elvis Club?he was a big Elvis fan. They are going to play his favourite song [Wise Men Say] at the funeral parlor today. Alan is taking his Elvis so it will be with him. There are so many letters coming to the family over the Internet. We let them know Adam was no longer with us earlier in the week.
LOUSIER said some good will come of the familys loss. The family donated his eyes - those lovely big brown eyes. Adam would be so proud knowing he made someone see, she said.
Adam was a big hit with senior citizens living at the King Street Seniors Complex. He often accompanied his father to work there and played cards and bingo with residents. He was an Atlantic Junior Citizen of the Year in 1992 and a leader in Miramichi wheelchair sports - a group his mother founded. Adam would have started Grade 11 at James M. Hill Memorial High School in September.
He was to be buried at St. Michaels Cemetery in Miramichi East after the 10 a.m. funeral on Thursday morning.
Well all miss him desperately, LOUSIER added.
