Zackariah James RATHWELL - Words are not adequate to describe the pain we feel over the tragic loss of our amazing, talented, handsome and legendary Zack. Zackariah was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta by his loving parents Ronda-Lee and J. Bruce RATHWELL. Zack touched and changed the lives of everyone he met, whether it was for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. Zack loved sports, active in both rugby and hockey, he could often be found on the outdoor rink, shooting pucks with his buddies. Zack also loved to travel, he had many family trips, and one large trip to Europe and Iceland. Zack was active in the 18th Scout troop, receiving the Chief Scout Award. Zackariah graduated from Bishop Carroll with a victory lap under his belt. He took a break to work on his music before deciding to attend ACAD. He was finishing his first year, overwhelmed with homework, but he loved it. His first love and passion was his band, Zackariah and the Prophets. Their first EP was released to great success this past Saturday.
His Mom and Ken WESOLOWSKI, his step-father, will miss the sound of his guitar wafting through the air vents as they fell asleep. His friends will miss the music, the jamming, and his competitive spirit, which challenged and inspired them to be their best.
He leaves behind his Mom and Dad; brother, Mason Bruce RATHWELL; step-siblings, Vanessa and Lance WESOLOWSKI; grandparents, Liz and Colin ACRES, Bruce and Maureen RATHWELL and Ruth J. RATHWELL; aunts and uncles; his brothers in music, Barry Mason and Kyle Tenove; as well as countless friends, fans and family. Even in the face of this horrific tragedy, it gives us some comfort to know that Zack was with his brother-in-music, Josh Hunter, when this unfathomable event occurred. Our hearts and thoughts are with all the families who have been brought together as we grieve the loss of our children.
The Memorial Service will be Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Centre Street Church, 3900 - 2 Street N.E., Calgary at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we request donations be made to the Zackariah James RATHWELL Trust Fund at any RBC location. This will be used to honour Zacks memory through the establishment of a scholarship which will help other students pursue their dreams in the arts.
