A much respected citizen of Newcastle, Miss A. Lyle McCORMACK, passed away at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Chatham on November 2nd, following a lengthy illness. Born in Newcastle 81 years ago, she was the daughter of the late John and Annie (JONES) McCORMACK. Living in Newcastle all her life, Miss McCORMACK was active in many community affairs. Having organized the first Girl Guide Troup in the town she had been given an honorary life membership. She was also an honorary life member of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Society, having been a member of the United Baptist Church in Newcastle. She was also active in the Canadian Red Cross Society. Following a long and faithful service as an employee of the Bank of Nova Scotia, she retired in 1958, later to be employed by the town of Newcastle, working in the assessor’s office. Her sincere love of family and friends and her forth-wright manner earned the respect of all who knew her.<br /> <br /> She is survived by one brother, Fred of Doaktown; three nephews, David and Sandy of Fredericton and Robert of Hamilton, Ontario; five nieces: Marjorie McCORMACK of Digby, NS, Jean COONEY of Cambridge, Ontario, Marjorie RANALLI and Ann McCLUSKEY of Hamilton and Joyce HACKBUSH of Arnprior, Ontario.<br /> <br /> Two brothers, Bert and Waldo, predeceased her.<br /> <br /> The remains rested at her home, 535 King George Highway, until Thursday, November 4th when funeral service was conducted there by Rev. L. Farrell. Interment was in the family plot in the Miramichi Cemetery.<br /> <br /> Pallbearers were: Paul SWIM, Dale BARRY, Willis DICKISON, Joe NEVIN, Ray MacDONALD and Wilson BROWN.<br /> <br /> Source: North Shore Leader - December 15, 1976 <br />
