On April 07, 2011 Alice lost her battle with cancer. She has gone home to be with her maker and to be with Eldon once again. Born on November 14, in Upper Nelson, New Brunswick to George and Grace GALLAN, she was the youngest of 12 children. Alice met and married the love of her life, Eldon S. MATCHETT and in 1954 they ventured out to Lethbridge, Alberta with their baby son, Eldon Jr. They stayed in Lethbridge and had one daughter, Virginia Grace. In 1970 they moved to Cranbrook, BC. Alice and Eldon were inseparable. They loved to go for rides in the woods, gathering fire wood with their companion. Snap. Eldon also owned a tow truck for many years and Alice was always in the truck with him. Alice managed the Cranbrook KFC for 20 years, but after Eldon had some health issues, Alice retired to be at home with him. On February 10, 1999, Eldon passed away and Alice was never the same. She had lost her soul mate. She always mourned his passing. She found comfort in the Seventh Day Adventist Church where she made many new friends. She enjoyed driving her car, going for coffee and shopping. Her favorite thing was her Sunday morning breakfast with her friends at the local A & W or Dairy Queen where all the staff knew her well. Alice always had a friendly smile for everyone and was a kindhearted person. She was always there to lend a helping hand to whoever needed one.
Alice leaves to mourn, her son Eldon [Diane] who she thought of as her second daughter; and her daughter, Virginia [Boyd] McNAMAR; her grandchildren: Darrell, Kari [Steve], Eldon 3rd, and Matthew [Jessica]; and great-grandchildren: Ashley, Austin, Sydney and Ryder; two sisters, Velma and Georgina, who still live in New Brunswick; as well as long time and special friends, Kathleen LANG and Marjorie STOCK. Also a special mention to her sister-in-law, Rhona, from Lethbridge, who never missed a daily call to Alice. Alice will be missed by family and friends as she left her mark in life as a kind, caring, helpful person that we will sadly miss.
A Memorial Service will be held on at Mark Memorial Funeral Home, 2024 Industrial Road No. 2, Cranbrook on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 1:00 pm.
