Mr. Rene Joseph MARTIN, husband of Donna MARTIN, of Chamberlain St., Bathurst, and formerly of Baie Ste-Anne, passed away at the Chaleur Regional Hospital, in Bathurst, on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2002, at the age of 54. Born in Baie Ste-Anne, he was the son of the late Allison and Margaret [ROBICHAUD] MARTIN. He was a correctional officer, by profession, and was employed for 30 years with the Dept. of Safety, the last of which he was superintendent of the Bathurst Detention Center.
He is survived by his wife, the former Donna KINGSTON; one daughter, Kimberly, and one son, Trevor, both at home; two sisters, Mrs. Percilla DOUCET [Leonard], of Shediac; and Mrs. Aurelda LeBLANC [Amie], of Petitcodiac; seven brothers: Aurel, of Hamilton, ON; Walter [Peggy], of Elliot Lake, ON; Archie [Pierette], of Montreal, PQ; Fernande [Flora], of Bay du Vin;, Paul [Carole], of Fredericton; Allison Jr. [Adrienne], of Miramichi; and Norbert [Leola], of Baie Ste-Anne.
He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Gerald and Donald.
Private family visiting was held at the funeral home. Funeral service was held from St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, Bay du Vin, on Wednesday, Sept. 11, conducted by Rev. Don Hamilton, assisted by Mrs. Frances Reid. The organist was Mrs. Lois DOLAN. The scriptures were read by Paul and Archie MARTIN. An honor guard consisting of correctional officers, members of the Fredericton Police Force, and members of the Northumberland County Sherriffs Office was formed outside the church, following the service.
Active pallbearers, all correctional officers: Gilles ROY, Vincent ALLAIN, Christian GODIN, Roberto SCICHILONE, Remi GODIN, and Bruno ROY.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Adams Funeral Home Ltd., 140 King St., Miramichi.
