MCKAY, ROBERT: born 1791, Nashwaak, York Co, NB, the 4th son of Robert McKay, Jr., formerly of the 42nd Highlanders, and Barbara (McCloud). He married Eleanor (Alice) Parrett on 14 June 1820, Strathadam, NB. She was born c 1796, Bandon, County Cork, Ireland, died 30 August 1882 at the age of 91, Strathadam.<br /> <br /> He preceded his wife, dying between 1865 and 1869 in Strathadam. Robert raised his family at Strathadam on the farm. He was a Constable in 1812 and Surveyor of Lumber for a number of terms in the 1820’s 30’s and 40’s, otherwise he was not a public figure.<br />

Mary, born 13 May 1822, married Justus Adams on 17 August 1840 in Northumberland Co, NB. She died 14 July 1902 in North Esk. They had a family of 10 children, which they raised in Strathadam. Justus, the son of Daniel Adams and Sarah B. Ives was born c 1808 and died 8 April 1883.<br /> <br /> Barbara, born February 1825, died 31 December 1896 in Strathadam, married John Menzies, Jr. son of John Menzies and Mary Forsyth, on 20 July 1858 in Strathadam, NB. He was born 4 April 1835 and died 18 March 1910 in Strathadam. They had a family of 4 children, which they raised in Strathadam. Barbara and John are buried in St. Philip’s United Cemetery, Whitney, NB.<br /> <br /> Robert Parrett, born 4 September 1826, married Isabelle McFarlane on 28 September 1859 in North Esk, NB. He died 29 May 1867 in North Esk. We are not aware of any issue.<br /> <br /> Zilpha, born 4 June 1829, married James Hunter on 17 July 1845 at Strathadam, NB. Sometime after 1861 the family moved to Nova Scotia. They were living at Nine Mile River, Hants Co, NS in the 1871 and 1881 Census. They had a family of at least 6 children.<br /> <br /> John, born c 1830 in Newcastle, NB. Sometime after 1846 he left on foot for California, USA and we have no record of him.<br /> <br /> Matthew, born c 1833 in Strathadam, NB, married Jessie Sherrard, d/o James T. Sherrard and Rebecca Shannon, on 5 October 1836 in North Esk. He died 6 April 1886 in Strathadam. They raised a family of 11 children in Strathadam. In her later years Jessie moved to Rosetown, SK where her youngest son was living and died there on 10 June 1921. She is buried in Rosetown Cemetery.<br /> <br /> Date of Arrival: From Nashwaak, York Co, NB to North Esk, where he petitioned for Crown Land in 1810 at the age of 21 years.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
