Brief summary
MCCOSH, ROBERT: born c 1793, in Ayrshire, Scotland. Family tradition suggests that he arrived in New Brunswick about 1820 as a shipbuilder with Gilmour, Rankin and Co. Robert married Catherine Taylor, the daughter of Robert Taylor and Margaret MacLain on 26 November 1822 in Newcastle. They were both listed as residents of Newcastle at that time. Headstones in St. James & St John Cemetery in Newcastle State that Robert died 21 May 1868, age 75, and his wife Catherine died 6 January 1863, age 62.

Robert, born 17 May 1823 in Douglastown and died 1 July 1905 in Douglastown. He married Eliza Williston, daughter of Luther and Eleanor (Taylor) Williston, born c 1839 in Bay du Vin, NB, died u/k, on 26 July 1860 in Newcastle. He inherited his father’s grant property. They had five children.
Jane, born 1825 and died after 1871. She married John Thompson, son of David Thompson, born c 1824, on 21 October 1846 in Northumberland Co, NB. They were last found on the 1871 Newcastle census. They had at least one daughter.
Margaret Gladys, born c 1828 and died after 1871. She married Robert Thompson, brother of her sister Jane’s husband John, on 10 October 1848 in Northumberland Co, NB. Robert was born c 1826 and died before 1871 as his widow and family were living with her father in law David Thompson in the 1871 Newcastle census.
John, born 8 December 1830 and died 8 July 1901 in Newcastle, NB. He married Margaret Miller, born c 1835 in NB, died after 1901, on 5 January 1854 in Chatham, NB. John apprenticed as a blacksmith to Robert Miller, who may have been a relative of his wife. They raised their family in Newcastle.
James, born c 1833 in Newcastle and died after 1851.
Catherine, born c 1835 in Newcastle, died 28 May 1929 in Northumberland Co, NB, married John McCoombs, born c 1825 in Northern Ireland, died 2 October 1903 in Trout Brook, Northumberland County, NB, on 12 October 1864 in Northumberland Co. They had three sons.
Elizabeth, born 13 May 1837, Newcastle, died 1 December 1914 in Strathadam, married Ebenezer McKay, son of George and Mary (Whitney) McKay, born c 1815, Strathadam, died 22 March 1892, Strathadam, on 8 November 1865 in Newcastle, NB. They had two sons.
Mary, born 4 October 1839 in Douglastown, NB, died 1 November 1885 in Wayerton, NB. She married John Waye, born 13 October 1828, England, died 6 January 1907, Wayerton, on 4 April 1872. She was John Waye’s 2nd wife. They had two children before her untimely death.
Alexander, born 7 September 1843 in Newcastle, NB, died likely before 1903. He married Ellen Cannan, born 10 April 1842, PEI daughter of Mr and Mrs John Cannan/Cannon, died 12 February 1931 in Brewer, Penobscot Co, ME, USA, on 28 September 1871 in Douglastown, NB. Ellen and her several of her family were living in Keaduskeag, ME about 1904. It is not known if Alexander moved with the family, or if the move was occasioned by his death. Alexander and Ellen had seven children.
