MALTBY, THOMAS BAKER: born 17 June 1792 in Scarborough, York, England, and died 2 February 1857 in Newcastle, NB. He married Margaret Kirton on 11 May 1816 in Monkwearmouth Church, Sunderland, England. She was born about 1790 in England and died 9 June 1868 in Newcastle, NB.
The family sailed from River Wear, Sunderland, England to Quebec in April 1817. They were shipwrecked and picked up by another vessel bound for the Miramichi. They settled in Newcastle. Thomas and Margaret are buried in St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Bushville, Chatham Parish, NB.

Mary Ann, born 25 March 1817, Sunderland, England, died 13 February 1890, Newcastle, NB. She married Hiram Fish on 28 October 1836 in Newcastle. He was born in 1815 in the USA and died 1853 in Newcastle. Hiram was a farmer/courier. They had nine children. Mary Ann and Hiram are buried in St. James & St. Johns United Cemetery, Newcastle.
Thomas, born 20 November 1818, Newcastle, died 14 March 1900, Newcastle. He married 1st Mary Morgan on 11 November 1838, No Co. She was born 1817 and died 21 August 1851; 2nd Margaret Anderson Keynes on 6 January 1854, No Co. She was born 1822 in NB and died 1893. Thomas was a carpenter and undertaker. He formed Thomas Maltby and Son in partnership with his son Richard in 1880. He had nine children with Mary and five children with Margaret. Mary and two of their sons are buried beside Thomas’ parents in St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Bushville. Thomas and Margaret are buried in St. Andrew’s Anglican Cemetery, Newcastle.
Robert, born 26 October 1820, Newcastle, died 6 September 1862, Petaluma, Sonoma Co, CA, USA. Robert was married and had a family.
George, born 6 September 1822, Newcastle, died 6 September 1833, Newcastle. He died at 11 years of age and is buried in St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery, Bushville, NB.
John, born 8 January 1825, Newcastle, died 17 November 1899, Seattle, WA, USA. He married Mary Ann Meagher. She was born 29 October 1829 in Bonaventure Co, PQ and died 13 September 1889. John was a carpenter in 1861.
Margaret, born 2 April 1828, Newcastle, died 11 February 1899, London, England. She married Charles Symonds on 16 June 1847 in No Co. Margaret and Charles took up residence in London, England in 1869.
