Brief summary
c1780-1860
HARRIGAN, DENNIS was born about 1780 in County Cork, Ireland, and died before 1861 probably in Williamstown, NB. Dennis married about 1808 in Ireland to Catherine Driscoll born 1782 in Ireland, and died about 1864 probably in Williamstown, NB. They arrived in New Brunswick with eight children about 1831. The last child, Dennis Jr., was born in Williamstown a year after their arrival. They had 10 children. Dennis, William, Cornelius and John Harrigan among others are all named in a land petition dated December 31, 1838, regarding water diversion in the Williamstown Settlement.
Dennis Sr. is not found in the 1861 census and is thought to have died prior to this. His wife Catherine is found living in her son Patrick’s home in the 1861 census of North Esk. No record of burial is found for Dennis or Catherine. In a land petition dated in 1865 it appears both Dennis and Catherine are deceased.

They had 8 children.
10. Dennis was born September 6, 1832, Williamstown, NB, and died about 1915 in Tacoma, Washington. According to land petition records Dennis lived in Minnesota for a year about 1864 as he returns to dispute the sale of his fathers land in Williamstown to which he had inherited but had not paid the mortgage on. The land dispute records are dated 1865 and 1866. His nephews, Dennis and Michael Sauntry purchased the land. He married about 1866 to Catherine Ahearn, daughter of John Ahearn and Ann Meighan. She was born March 1, 1835, in North Esk, NB, and died October 25, 1918, Tacoma, WA. Dennis and his wife moved to Stillwater about 1867 and there he was a carpenter. Dennis, Catherine and seven children, along with his brother Cornelius are listed in the 1880 Stillwater census. Perhaps they are running a boarding house, as there are a number of young men living with them, many list NB as their birthplace. By 1888 he and one of his sons moved to Tacoma WA, the rest of the family followed a year later. They had seven children all born in Stillwater, MN and were the grand parents of the late singer, Bing Crosby.
