Brief summary
William Scott was born in Scotland in 1812, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Scott, all of whom immigrated to the middle district of Newcastle in what was called Rosebank, now Nordin. He purchased three pieces of Lot # 12, and in the 1838 to 1840 period, built a home and workshop there. He was variously called a block master, mast maker, pump maker and in the 1870’s, a cabinetmaker. A letter dated September 2, 1991 states that the Scott home still stands and was lately owned and occupied by the local artist, Richard Howe.

Discription of the issues related to this individual
(1) Frances Johnston Born November 6, 1837 in Rosebank, Newcastle Parish. On December 22, 1859 she married William Donald Henderson, born c1836 to William and Isabella Henderson of Nelson. The Henderson’s immigrated in 1833. William and Frances lived in the middle district of Newcastle and had at least eight children. William was a shipwright and house joiner. Frances died on October 3, 1919 in Chatham and William, on July 3, 1918 in Chatham.
(2) James Creighton Born December 25, 1839. He married Charity Jane Abbott (born c1843 in P.E.I.) on December 27, 1865. She was the daughter of John C. and Mary Ann Abbott of Newcastle. Although James and Charity Jane lived in Cambridge, Massachusetts, they were in Newcastle in 1881 and in 1891, along with their five children. By 1901 James was a widower.
(3) Janet Born c1841. She could be the Janet who married James Weatherby on June 2, 1864. She lived in Newburyport, MA and had one son and one daughter.
(4) George Creighton Born November 9, 1843; died November 17, 1883 in Texas. He travelled to New Orleans in the later 1860’s to promote his design for an elevator, which he sold for $500.00 to Otis. He married Myra Louise Gourley in Louisiana and raised four children. Their descendants still reside in Texas.
(5) William Born on November 29, 1845; died on November 5, 1864 at the age of nineteen. He was buried at St. James and St. John’s Cemetery, Newcastle.
(6) Abrams Alexander Born on March 6, 1848; died February 6, 1930 in Douglastown. He was a block maker and a mechanic. On September 23, 1886 he married Margaret Lamont, the daughter of Alexander Lamont and Hannah J. Cameron of Newcastle. Margaret was born April 26, 1851 and died September 16, 1949 in Douglastown. They raised four children in the Douglastown area. Both Abrams and Margaret were buried in St. Mark’s Cemetery.
(7) Grace Born on July 11, 1850. She never married and lived in Newsburyport, Massachusetts where she worked as a dressmaker.
(8) Margaret Anderson Born on September 5, 1853 in Rosebank; died on November 8, 1938, aged 84. On August 29, 1891She married William Millar, son of R.J. Millar and Sarah A. Taylor of Douglastown. He apparently died long before Margaret as she operated a store in Douglastown for many years. They had no issue. She was buried at St. James and St. John’s Cemetery, Newcastle.
