Brief summary
Neil McGraw was born in Argyllshire, Scotland in 1755 and died in Black River in May 1834 at the age of 79. He served with the 42nd Highlanders during the American War of Independence and received a pension after having been wounded in the arm. Neil and his comrades received land grants on the Nashwaak River, York County prior to his move to Northumberland County where he petitioned for land in 1814. He was buried in St. Stephen’s Community Cemetery, Black River Bridge, Northumberland County.

Discription of the issues related to this individual
(1) Farquhar Born c1797; died 1884. Farquhar was a farmer and a fisherman. He married Jane McKinnon on August 18, 1830. She was born 1806 in Bay du Vin and died in May 1910 in Black River. She was the daughter of Gregor McKinnon and Jane/Jean Pearson (?). Farquhar and Jane/Jean had eleven children and were buried at St. Stephen’s Community Cemetery, Black River Bridge.
(2) Daniel (Donald) Born c1801; died between 1881 and 1891 in Black River. He was unmarried. He farmed with his mother and brother Alexander.
(3) Alexander Born c1802; died before 1881. He was unmarried. He was a farmer and a lumberman.
(4) Duncan Born c1804; died on September 27, 1856. He married Isabella McDougall in January 1832. She arrived in Northumberland with her family in June 1817. She was born September 2, 1809 and died August 3, 1884. Duncan and Isabella had eight children, including one adopted daughter.
(5) Euphemia Born 1806; died before 1851. She married Donald McLeod on May 31, 1829. The son of John and Jane McLeod, he was born in 1802 and died in 1884. Donald was a farmer. They had two children who were living with Mary, Donald, and Alexander in 1851.
(6) Margaret Born 1808. She married Thomas Jones on February 9, 1828. He was born in 1798 in Wales and arrived in N.B. in 1818. They had six children in Glenelg by 1851 but were not included in subsequent Northumberland County censuses. Thomas was a farmer.
(7) Jane Born 1809. On July 3, 1831 she married William Gibson, a farmer who was born c1801 in the U.S. Jane and William had eight children. They were Presbyterian. With the exception of a son James, this family is not found in the Northumberland County census after 1861.
(8) Susanna Born c1813. She married John Murray on March 19, 1849 in Black River. He was born c1795 and arrived in Northumberland County in May 1820. He might have been a widower since the 1851 census indicates that four of the six children in this family were much older than the two youngest. They were not in any census for Northumberland County after 1851.
(9) Emma/Emily/Amy Born 1816; died March 12, 1868. She married William Patterson on October 24, 1837, who had arrived here in June 1831. A joiner, he was born c1813 and died before 1872. Amy and William had thirteen children. This family was Presbyterian.
(10) George Born c1817; died after 1891. He was unmarried. In 1861 he was living with his mother, Mary, and brothers, Alexander and Donald/Daniel. In 1871 George was living with the two brothers and Sarah McGraw, aged 17. In 1881 Donald and George were still living together on the farm, but in 1891 George was living with a nearby Kelly family and Donald was deceased.
Note: The ages of the older sons seem to vary in census records, but family sources indicate that Daniel was older than Farquhar.
