Robert Mayes and his brother Henry May(e)s emigrated from Londonderry, Ireland to Napan where they farmed. Robert was born c1789 and died October 15, 1853. He was buried in St. John’s Presbyterian, Chatham. Henry was born c1792 and died after the 1861 census. He remained unmarried. In 1851 he was living with Robert and his family. In 1861 after Robert died, he was boarding and working as a labourer with a local Dickens family who were also farmers. Robert and Henry were Presbyterian.

Discription of the issues related to this individual
(1) Henry Born c1826; died March 16, 1899 in Chatham. On January 5, 1855 he married Isabella Wilson, daughter of Mungo Wilson* and Mary Irving of Napan. Isabella was born 1833, died March 20, 1869, and was buried in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Cemetery, Chatham. Henry was a butcher. They raised five children.
(2) Ellen Born September 24, 1830; died March 4, 1909. On July 13, 1854 she married William Wilson, born May 3, 1822, brother of Henry Wilson. William was also a farmer. They had three children. He died in 1899 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery, Chatham.
(3) Elizabeth Born 1831; died October 13, 1895. On October 4, 1854 she married Thomas Elkin, son of Daniel Elkin and Elizabeth _________, neighbours of the Mayes family. They had four children. Thomas died December 21, 1884 and was buried, along with other family members, in St. Michael’s R.C. Cemetery, Chatham.
