Charles Luke was born in Clackmannan, Scotland on October 5, 1777, son of William Luke* and Christian Meffen. In 1851 Charles was a widower living with his son James and family. Children of Charles Luke and Ann Dawson:<br /> <br /> (1) William Born March 12, 1804 in Clackmannan, Scotland. <br /> <br /> (2) Charles Born April 19, 1806 in Clackmannan, Scotland. On January 6, 1844 he married Jane Drysdale. They had four children.<br /> <br /> (3) James Born June 9, 1808 in Clackmannan, Scotland; died June 20, 1873. On August 22, 1834 in Clackmannan, Scotland, he married Catherine Watson, born April 17, 1806 in Scotland. They arrived in Northumberland County in 1837 where they raised nine children. Catherine died January 8, 1903 at the age of 96. James was a miller.<br /> <br /> *In 1818 a marriage between William Luke and Catherine Goodfellow took place in Northumberland County. First Families (Vol. 2, p.75) has Catherine Goodfellow, born after 1786 to David Goodfellow and Janet McCurrie, who died in the Miramichi Fire of 1825, along with five children. Perhaps William Luke was married more than once.<br /> <br /> Note: In 1832 in the Chatham newspaper (see Dan Johnson’s Vital Statistics) William Luke was deceased and his estate was being administered by Helen Luke (formerly of PEI) and two Stewart men. <br /> <br /> Note: According to the Union Advocate, William Luke sold the family farm at the easterly end of Newcastle and had moved to Chatham by 1901.
