*Mary Barron (née White) was the widow of William Newport Barron who died December 24, 1840, shortly after their marriage December 29, 1838. They had one child, Jane, at the time of his death and Mary seems to have been expecting another child, Mary, as recorded in the 1851 census. Mary Barron, widow, died June 21, 1876 in Chatham. Her husband had been the Customs representative.
Maggie Barron who married Thomas Keys was a daughter of the widow Barron, but was born June 4, 1852 and, therefore, was not the daughter of William Newport Barron. When Mary, born c1840 died January 12, 1906 in Red Bank, her tombstone in St. Michael’s R.C. Cemetery identifies her as Mary Newport Barron. Maggie and Mary had the same mother but not the same father.
