Brief summary
Maurice Doyle was born c1807 in Ireland. On October 2, 1836 in Northumberland County he married Catherine Mary Walsh, born c1816 in Kilkenny, Ireland. He died April 12, 1862 whereas Catherine lived into the 1890’s, possibly dying on June 9, 1896 (“Mrs. Doyle”) in Upper Nelson. Maurice and Catherine both died in Renous.

Discription of the issues related to this individual
(1) Thomas Born c1838. On April 29, 1874 he married Ann Singleton (1847-1891), daughter of William John Singleton and Mary Donovan of Chatham. Ann’s father was a blacksmith and a policeman. The Singleton’s were Roman Catholic. Thomas and Ann lived in Nelson Parish and raised five children.
(2) Patrick Born c1839; died Jan 1911. On July 11, 1866 he married Ellen Allan, born c1843 to William and Johanna Allen, who immigrated in 1837. They were Roman Catholic. Patrick and Ellen moved to Stillwater, Minnesota before 1871, but by 1891 Ellen (wid.) was back in Nelson with her son Fred. Ellen Doyle was buried at St. Edward’s R.C. Cemetery, Chelmsford in 1906. A newspaper announcement in 1911 reported Patrick’s death on December 27, 1910 and indicated that his wife was Ellen Allen of Chatham.
(3) John Allan Born cFebruary 15, 1839; died June 29, 1927. On September 23, 1869 he married Ellen Donovan, who was born October 18, c1850 in Renous to Michael Donovan and Ellen Butler of Blackville. In the 1891 census John and Ellen were living in Nelson with nine children, next door to Thomas and his family, as well as their mother Catherine (aged 73). John was a farmer, and the family was Roman Catholic.
(4) Frances “Fanny” Born c1844. On July 11, 1866 she married John Hackett, born c1834 to John and Margaret Hackett who had immigrated in 1819 to Northumberland County. John and Fanny farmed in Nelson and raised at least nine children. They were Roman Catholic.
(5) Margaret Born c1846 Upper Nelson. She was not in the census after 1861.
(6) Michael Born February 1848. In 1871 he was recorded (aged 21) as a saddler apprentice living in Chatham and in 1881, as a saddler. He was still living in 1901 and was unmarried.
(7) Honora/Hanna Born 1850. She was ten in 1861. On October 20, 1875 one Honora Doyle married John Hogan.
(8) Catherine Born February 1852 Upper Nelson; died December 13, 1906 in Moncton.
Note 1: Thomas Doyle, brother of Maurice, arrived in 1820 from Ireland. He was a shoemaker and was not found with his own family.
Note 2: Another Michael Doyle lived in the county and was married. Yet another died in 1877 in Craigville.
