Brief summary
Henry Copp was born on October 31, 1785, one of four brothers who emigrated from England and settled on the west side of the North West at the Meadows and Trout Brook. These brothers were among ten children born to John and Susannah Copp of Devonshire, England and baptized in the Anglican Parish Church at Roborough by Torrington, near Bideford. Henry Copp stated in a land petition dated March 2, 1822 that he came to the Miramichi two and one half years previously. He obtained 200 Acres of land five miles above the entrance to Big Sevogle River, known for many tears as Copp’s Settlement, now Trout Brook. He died April 23, 1877 in Copp’s Settlement, North Esk Parish.

(1) John Born December 17, 1810 in Devonshire, England; died August 15, 1843 in England.
(2) Henry Born August 6, 1812 in Devonshire, England; died December 24, 1888 in Newcastle, N.B. He married Nancy Ann Blackmore on October 14, 1842. Nancy was born c1823 in England and died on November 28, 1884, aged 59. Henry was Church of England and Nancy was Methodist. They had eleven children.
(3) Susan Born April 20, 1814 in Devonshire, England; died February 16, 1895 Rockland, Maine. On February 11, 1834 she married Milton Robbins Cummings, born August 26, 1803 in Union, Knox Co., Maine and died July 15, 1885.
(4) Mary Born November 14, 1816 in Devonshire, England; died February 11, 1900 in Trout Brook, Northumberland County. She married (1) Samuel Peabody on October 4, 1836. They had five children. Samuel died April 5, 1844. Mary married (2) Jonathan Hosford on March 29, 1848. They had six children. Jonathan died October 10, 1892, aged 86. Mary and both husbands were buried in Wesley United (Methodist) Cemetery, Trout Brook.

(6) Maria Born April 16, 1821 in Devonshire, England; died April 14, 1904, Whitney, Northumberland County. On July 20, 1847 in North Esk, N.B. she married Peter H. Sinclair*, son of Andrew and Jane Sinclair. He was born in 1812 in Caithnesshire, Scotland and died March 27, 1882 in Whitney. They had eight children. Peter was Presbyterian and Maria was Methodist. They were buried in St. Stephen’s United (Former Presbyterian), Cemetery, Red Bank. *See First Family Peter H. Sinclair in this volume.
(7) Elizabeth Page Born February 13, 1823 in Trout Brook; died 1916 in Trout Brook. She married Joseph Weston on June 16, 1883. Born April 10, 1826 to John Weston and Mary Ann Tucker, he was a farmer and belonged to the Church of England. He died July 5, 1903 in Trout Brook. Elizabeth’s death record indicates that she was Church of England, but she had been Methodist.
(8) Ann Nancy Born August 5, 1824 in Trout Brook. She was living in Oregon, U.S.A. in 1850. On December 18, 1845 she married Francis Fisher, son of Angus Fisher and Elizabeth Forsythe.
(9) William Born October 5, 1826; died December 24, 1917 in North Esk. On July 9, 1856 in North Esk he married Judith/Julia O’Shea, daughter of Darby and Catherine O’Shea. They had seven children. Julia was born June 9, 1830 and died March 31, 1916, aged 86. Both names of William and Julia are on the tombstone in St. Thomas RC Cemetery, Red Bank although William was Church of England.
(10) Catherine Born January 1, 1828; died February 4, 1921, aged 92 in Cassilis, Northumberland County. On February 9, 1848 in North Esk she married David Blackmore, born January 10, 1821 in Derby and died December 7, 1878 in Sillikers. They were both buried in St. Stephen’s United (Former Presbyterian) Cemetery, Red Bank. They had eleven children.
(11) Joseph Born June 8, 1831 in Bushville, Northumberland County; died February 7, 1916 in Trout Brook, He married (1) Elizabeth Mullin on July 23, 1857 in North Esk. They had
three children. She died July 22, 1863, aged 26. He married (2) his sister-in-law Maria Mullin on June 28, 1882 in North Esk. They had two children. She died November 6, 1904, aged 64. Joseph and his wives were buried in Wesley United (Methodist) Cemetery, Trout Brook.
