Brief summary
Terrence Cook was born in 1809 in County Cork or County Wexford, Ireland. He ran away from home at age 13 and stowed away on a ship. He was allowed to remain on the ship due to the captain observing he was a smart young lad. Several years later, he arrived on the Miramichi and decided to stay here. He donated the land for St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Margaret’s, Glenelg Parish. He died July 1, 1881 in St. Margaret’s and was buried in the first plot of St. Margaret’s R.C. Church Cemetery. Terrence was the only Cook to settle in Northumberland County.

(1) John Born 3 November 1833; died September 18, 1900, aged 67. He married (1) Catherine Brophy on August 1, 1861. She was the daughter of Patrick Brophy and Mary Ford. They had seven children before she died May 19, 1873. He married (2) Mary Ann Daley on September 30, 1874. She was born in April 1850 to Hugh Daley and Mary Grant. They had nine children. Mary Ann died March 17, 1932, aged 83. John was a farmer in St. Margaret’s. John, Catherine and Mary Ann were buried in St. Margaret’s Cemetery.
(2) Maria Born 1836 and died January 5, 1880. On November 16, 1856 she married John Brophy (born c1831), son of Patrick Brophy and Mary Ford who immigrated to the area in July 1826. John and Maria had seven children. They were Roman Catholic. John was a farmer in Glenelg Parish

(3) Bernard Hillarian Born April 28, 1837; died October 28, 1933. He married Mary Susan Quinn November 21 1866. She was born in 1847 to Edward Quinn and Rose Conway and died June 26/27, 1900. Bernard and Mary farmed in Redmondville. They had nine children, two of whom died young.
(4) Catherine Born 1839; died September 7, 1878. On October 9, 1862 she married Patrick Brophy, born c1837 to Patrick and Mary Brophy, natives of Waterford, Ireland. They raised seven children in Glenelg Parish. Patrick was a farmer. They were Roman Catholic.
(5) Jane Born c1841; died July 9, 1929, aged 87. On July 16, 1866 she married Thomas Power, the son of Thomas Power and Catherine Deigan. He was born 1840 and died June 19, 1914 in Wine River. They had nine children. Also farmers, they were neighbours of the McGraw and Cook families in Glenelg Parish. Thomas and Jane were buried in St. Margaret’s RC Cemetery, St. Margaret’s.
(6) Bridget Born c1844; died February 18, 1879. On September 18, 1865 she married Thomas McGraw/McGrath, son of Thomas and Ann McGraw (immigrated 1826 & 1827, respectively). They had seven children before her death on February 18, 1879.
(7) Anne Born June 10, 1846; died 7 Feb 1930. On July 2, 1872 she married Thomas Redmond/ Redman, Jr., born December 10, 1848 to Thomas and Margaret Redmond/Redman, natives of County Wexford, Ireland. They had eleven children. Thomas was a farmer in Glenelg Parish. They were Roman Catholic.
(8) Cecilia Born 1847; died before 1901. She married Ignatius Redmond June 1, 1871. Older brother of Thomas (above), he was born September 1845 and died October 31, 1905. Cecilia and Ignatius had six children. He was a farmer in Chatham Parish. They were Roman Catholic.
(9) Terrence Born 1848; died 1894. He married Elizabeth Lynch on January 14, 1880. She was born February 10, 1856 and died November 21, 1902 in St. Margaret’s. They had four children. She continued to farm after Terrence’s death.
(10) George J. Born October 14, 1852; died October 28, 1937. On January 28, 1884 he married (1) Miss Julia Rigley, c1859-June 16, 1885; (2) Sarah Whalen, March 8, 1864-April 28, 1948. Sarah was the daughter of Peter Whalen and Catherine Redmond of St. Margaret’s.

(12) Martin Born May 14, 1856/7; died 23 Nov 1924. He was unmarried.
