Brief summary
James Chapman was born December 25, 1826 in Scotland. He arrived on the Miramichi aboard a lumber ship as part of the crew in May of 1842. He became the first light-keeper at Bird Rock at the mouth of Miramichi Bay but was forced to resign to make way for a Quebec resident with more influence with government. Children of James Chapman and Ann Goodfellow:<br /> <br /> (1) Alice Jane Goodfellow Born c1837 to Ann Goodfellow; died August 10, 1902. She married John Williston Goodfellow (her cousin) on Sept 14, 1857 in Glenelg parish and had 12 children. <br /> They were Presbyterian.<br /> <br /> (2) Isabella Born November 5, 1849; died after 1861.<br /> <br /> (3) Margaret Ann Born June 9, 1851 Point aux Carr; died July 29, 1929 Chatham. On June 3, 1872 she married Philip Henry Burbridge, born March 31, 1845 to Richard Burbridge and Mary Ann Shank of Chatham, and died November 29, 1914. Henry was a ship carpenter who worked for W.S. Loggie. They were Church of England. They raised eleven children who were employed in various trades. Margaret and Henry were both buried in Riverside Cemetery, Chatham.<br /> <br /> (4) James Goodfellow Born July 2, 1853; died before 1871.<br /> <br /> (5) Robert Murray Born March 18, 1855?; died March 16, 1864 of diphtheria.<br /> <br /> (6) Charlotte Born April 29, 1858. On February 10, 1880 she married John Noble of Hardwicke Parish. The Noble families were, variously, Church of England, Methodist or Presbyterian. <br /> <br /> (7) Mary Born 1861; died between 1871 and 1881.<br /> <br /> Children of James Chapman and Alice Jane Helman:<br /> <br /> (8) Robert Noble Born April 21, 1885.<br /> <br /> (9) Henry Burbridge Born April 16, 1886 Hardwicke; died April 20, 1957 Chatham. On October 14, 1925 he married Edith Hazel Helman in St. Stephen’s Manse, Black River. Hazel was born c1907 to William Henry Halman and Barbara McLean and died April 17, 1926 in Hardwicke.<br /> <br /> (10) William Johnson Born April 1, 1888; died January 20, 1964. On September 1, 1915 he married (1) Mary Emeline Dutcher, born December 19, 1887 to Daniel Dutcher and Isabella Ann Mills. They had four children. Mary died December 30, 1923, and William married (2) Mary Mildred Jenkins of Chatham. William and Mary Emeline were buried in St. John the Evangelist (New) Anglican Cemetery, Bay du Vin.<br /> <br /> (11) Annie Jane Born May 11, 1891.<br /> <br /> (12) Bella Born February 26, 1893.<br /> <br /> (13) Rita Alice Born March 1897; died in January 30, 1984. She married Henry (Harry) W. Halman/Helman on June 23, 1916. The son of William H. Helman and Barbara McLean, Henry was born April 28, 1895 in Hardwicke and died in 1975. Rita and Harry had at least one child. They were both buried in St. James the Less Anglican Church Cemetery, Hardwicke, Northumberland County.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
