Brief summary
Thomas Carroll, born c1774 in Ireland, was a widower when he arrived in Northumberland County c1808. He purchased Lot 4 (200 Acres) on the east side of the Bartibog River in 1812. He also petitioned for land in 1814 in which he said he “…has been 6 years in British America, during 4 of which he resided in this country. He is 40 years of age and unmarried.” He received the grant on August 17, 1816, Lot 8 on the opposite side of the Bartibog; however, he remained on the east side, selling Lot 8 to Thomas Smith on March 26, 1818. Thomas’ two children (there may have been more) arrived in 1828 and were given ownership of half of Lot 4 each in the 1830’s (Timothy in 1833 and Ellen in 1838). Thomas died in Bartibog sometime in the 1840’s. Both Timothy and Ellen and their families occupied the lot for most of the 19th century.<br /> <br />

Discription of the issues related to this individual
(1) Timothy Born c1801 in Ireland; died c1879 in Bartibog. He married (1) Rose Reilly (c1810-c1838) on January 8, 1831 at St. Patrick’s RC, Nelson; (2) Sara Dignum (c1811-c1871) c1840. Timothy and Rose had three children, only one of whom (Matthew) survived to marry and have a family. Timothy and Sara had five children, four of whom left descendants (Rose, John, Bridget & Timothy). They were RC. <br /> <br /> (2) Ellen Born c1803 in Ireland; died February 21, 1892 in Bartibog; buried in Bartibog Cemetery. On September 15, 1836 she married John Egan (c1794- c1891). They had six children, but only Ann and Mary left descendants. This family was R.C.<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
