Archibald Cameron was born 1769 in Argyllshire, Scotland. He immigrated to Black River in 1804 with his wife, four eldest children, his brother Charles, and a cousin. Archibald, Mary, and Archibald Jr. received a 400 acre grant on the north side of Black River, Lots 16 and 17 where they farmed. (1) Lauchlin “Allan” Born 1796 in Scotland; died November 18, 1847, aged 51. He married (1) Elizabeth Alton on September 10, 1831 and had two daughters. Allan married (2) Elizabeth Bruce. They had six children who were brought up by various family members after his death. His widow remarried to Philip Gain on June 27 1853 in a RC ceremony.<br /> <br /> (2) John Born 1798 in Scotland; died March 1829. He married Mary McNaughton September 1, 1819. Mary (1795-June 12, 1878) continued to farm and raise their 5 children as the “Widow Cameron” until her death.<br /> <br /> (3) Hugh (Ewen) Born May 1800 in Scotland; died March 10, 1887. He was married on May 5, 1826 to Catherine McLean (May 1804-March 20, 1890), the daughter of Hugh and Mary McLean. They had seven children.<br /> <br /> (4) Annie Born in 1802 in Scotland. She married Archibald McDonald in January 1833. They moved to Antigonish, Nova Scotia. <br /> <br /> (5) Donald Born in 1804 was the first of their children born in Black River. He died in 1885. He was married on October 8, 1828 to Margery McLeod, born June 3, 1809 to Murdoch McLeod and Janet Martin. She died November 4, 1905 although the tombstone differs. They had seven children.<br /> <br /> (6) Alexander Born 1805 in Black River, N.B.; died May 23, 1870. He was married January 20, 1851 to Jane Barton of Kent County. She was born 1820 and died 1899. They had nine children. They lived and farmed in Black River before moving to Kent County where he and his brother James had a mill. <br /> <br /> (7) Marjory Born June 3, 1807 in Black River; died March 21, 1878. She married (1) on December 22, 1825 to John McNaughton (1802 in Glen Lyon, Perthshire, Scotland- May 9, 1831) and they had two children; she married (2) on February 12, 1835 to John McKay (1802, Pictou, NS- January 23, 1880) with whom she had eight children.<br /> <br /> (8) James Born 1809 in Black River; died 1870. He married Margaret Barton of Kent County and had nine children. He operated “Cameron Mill” with his brother and resided in Palmerston (now St. Louis) Parish, Kent County.<br /> <br /> (9) Murdoch Born 1811 in Black River; died September 6, 1866. He married on January 1, 1841 Margaret McDougall (November 6, 1816-June 17, 1897, aged 80), daughter of Hugh McDougall and Jane MacDiarmid. They had ten children.<br /> <br /> (10) Christina Born 1813 in Black River; died October 18, 1874. She married Hector McDonald (1815-December 15, 1876), a native of Antigonish, N.S. They lived in the Glenwood area of Glenelg Parish. They had at least five children.<br /> <br /> (11) Dougald Born 1814 in Black River; died in 1851 by drowning when he attempted to cross the newly formed ice in the river. He was not married. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
