YOUNG, WILLIAM: born circa 1814 in Bantry Bay, County Cork, Ireland, and died sometime between 1881 and the 1891 Census in South Esk. He married Nancy “Ann” Barry before 1849 in Ireland. She was born circa 1824 in Bantry Bay, County Cork, Ireland and died 21 December 1882 in Newcastle. Ann was a sister to James Barry. There is a tombstone for Ann in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Newcastle, NB.
William, Ann, Michael and William, Jr. are listed in the Irish Famine Migration to NB 1845-1852, as coming from Cork to South Esk in 1852. In the 1871 South Esk Census, William was listed as a farmer. They made their home near the South Esk-Derby parish line. The family was Roman Catholic.

Michael Joseph, born August 25, 1849 in Bantry Bay, Co. Cork, Ireland and died February 6, 1939, Red Bank, NB, Can. He married Ellen Elizabeth Regan, daughter of Cornelius Regan and Nora Donovan, on September 2, 1884. She was born June 3, 1864, Newcastle, NB and died March 16, 1950 in Red Bank, NB. Michael was a farmer and a fisherman. They raised their family of 6 in South Esk. Both Michael and Ellen died at the home of their daughter, Mrs William Holland (Annie E.) of Red Bank.
William, born May 3, 1852 in England and died June 22, 1915, Derby, NB. He married Elizabeth Dunn on September 1, 1890. She was born July 27, 1863 and died January 11, 1941 in Newcastle. William was a sectionman for the ICR when he was killed when a train hit him while he was trying to remove a trolley car from the tracks. He was survived by his wife and 6 children. The family lived at both South Esk and Newcastle.
James William, born September 21, 1854 in South Esk, NB and died August 1, 1931 in Whitney, NB. He married Ann Catherine McKibbon, daughter of William McKibbon and Catherine Lyons, on November 8, 1886 in St. Thomas Catholic Church, Red Bank. Ann was born February 1864 in Exmoor and died April 25, 1953 in Whitney, NB. They raised their family of 5 in the Whitney area.
Thomas, born before January 31, 1859 in South Esk, NB and died February 3, 1923 in Newcastle, NB. He married Mary Ann Regan, daughter of Cornelius Regan and Nora Donovan, on October 10, 1893. She was born February 28, 1873 in Newcastle, NB and died May 7, 1930 in South Esk, NB. They had 2 children, and lived as a neighbor of Michael Young at South Esk.
Ellen, born February 26, 1860 in South Esk, NB and died May 17, 1917 in Newcastle, NB. She married William A. Murray on March 9, 1891 in St. Thomas Catholic Church, Red Bank. He was born in 1866 in Newcastle, NB and died November 4, 1939 in Newcastle, NB. They raised 6 children on Chaplin Island Road area of Newcastle.
John, born January 1861 in South Esk, NB and died March 30, 1914 in South Esk, NB. He married Bridget Ann Murphy, daughter of Daniel Murphy and Mary Lyons, on October 17, 1889 in St. Thomas Catholic Church, Red Bank, NB. She was born before September 22, 1865 in Exmoor, NB and died March 18, 1914 in South Esk, NB. John and his wife Bridget died within 11 days of each other, the victims of tuberculosis. John died where he was born, in his parent’s home at South Esk. John and Bridget were survived by their 6 children, a 7th having died as an infant.
Date of Arrival: Left Ireland after 1849 went to England, and then to South Esk, arriving in 1852.
