VERIKER, RICHARD: born in Ireland about 1825. It is believed he was brought to this country by his uncle, Rev. Richard Veriker. He married Mary Ann Kelly of Chatham, daughter of Patrick and Ann (Cavinaugh) Kelly (both from Ireland), on 9 June 1859. The marriage was performed by Richard’s uncle, Rev. Richard Veriker. They resided n Nowlan Settlement where they raised a family of 6 children.

Ann, born about 1860, was baptised on 29 June 1860 by Rev. Michael Egan. Sponsors were John McConn and Ellen Traynor. Ann moved to the USA where she married Roger Farquhar. They had one son. She is not listed in her brother’s obituary in 1932, so it is presumed she died before that date.
Nicholas John, born December 1861 and was baptised on 23 January 1862. Baptism was performed by Rev. Michael Egan and sponsors were Peter Kelly (Mary Ann’s brother) and Elizabeth Gorman. Nicholas never married. He was a big man with a good sense of Humour, but also had a quick temper. He was a farmer and also owned and operated a store in Nowlanville, which was the gathering place for the locals. He died in his sleep at the home of his brother, Peter, in Nowlanville on 7 February 1932. The funeral was held at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Nelson, officiated by Father E. P. Wallace. Interment was in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
Richard was born on 2 August 1863 and was baptised by Rev. Michael Egan 5 days later on 7 August. Sponsors were Tobias Veriker and Anne Kelly. Richard was a successful rancher in Montana until his death about 1932. He never married.
Mary (Minnie) Alice, born in 1865, baptised 4 July 1865 by Fr. Michael Egan. Baptismal sponsors were John Flanigan and Mary Gorman. Minnie moved to the USA and married a Knag. In 1932 they lived in Orange, New Jersey. They had at least 3 children. Her date of death is unknown.
Sarah was born 1 June 1867. He baptism was held on 15 June, officiated by Rev. Michael Egan. Sponsors were Thomas Gorman and Margaret McManus. Sarah attended Nowlan Village (NB) No. 3 School. In 1877-78 her teacher was Maggie Wood. Sarah married Blair Dunn and they lived in the USA.
Peter Paul, born 13 August 1869, and was baptised 4 days later. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Michael Egan and sponsors were Michael Veriker and Ellen Woods. He married Loretta English on 3 November 1909. Born in January of 1877, she was the youngest child of Michael and Catherine (Murphy) English. Peter was a farmer and railroad worker who lived and raised his family of 7 children in Nowlanville, NB. He died 17 February 1963 at his home in Nowlanville. He wife, Loretta, died 6 days later on 23 February. They are interred at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Nelson, NB.
