Brief summary
`749-1817
PRICE, THOMAS “WALTER”: born 1749 in Llanarthyerey Parish, Wales and died 1817 in New Brunswick. He married Mary Woods, a cousin, on 24 September 1772 in Wales. She was born 1754 in Laughame, Wales. Rev. Walter Price was a minister with the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel, coming from Devonshire England to St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada in 1784.
While he was at the St. John’s Church in St. Johns, NF he arranged for a silver patten and chalice to be provided from England. This silver was on display at the Newfoundland Arts Centre in 1997 and now is most probably at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist, which was built on the site of that church.
In 1790 Rev. Price moved his family to New Brunswick, settling near Durham Bridge, Parish of St. Mary’s, near Fredericton. He petitioned for land in Ludlow in 1805 as his sons had already moved there, and he was a member of the Legislature of New Brunswick. Walter died of Typhoid Fever in 1817. It is believed he is buried in Nashwaak or St. Mary’s, York Co, NB.
