O’DONNELL, JAMES FRANCIS: born c 1794 Ireland and immigrated to NB in 1823. Ellen (Eleanor) Reilly, born c 1805, emigrated in 1826. Their marriage was performed 14 March 1828 by Father Dollard, of the South Nelson mission with a dispensation of banns. James Francis O'Donnell had settled at Barnaby River, petitioned for 120 acres of land on 10 February 1832, and finalized the sale on 14 April 1840 for $115.00.<br /> <br /> They lived at the homestead in Barnaby River throughout their entire lives. James Francis died between 1861-1871. Ellen passed away between 1881-1891; both are probably buried at Malcolm Cemetery, St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Nelson-Miramichi, although no records have been located.<br />

Francis, born 2 November 1829, baptised by Father Dollard on 11 January 1830. He was working as a labourer in 1861; no further information was found. He may have died young as his younger brother received his father’s inheritance.<br /> <br /> Rose, born 27 May 1831, baptised by Father Dollard on 19 June 1831. She died in childhood.<br /> <br /> Mary, born 1832, baptised by Father Egan on 1 April 1833 at the age of 5 months. On 9 October 1855, she married Andrew Ryan, the son of Joseph Ryan and Catherine McInness. Andrew was born on 5 February 1826. Andrew and Mary had eight children prior to immigrating in 1882 to Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Mary died 1 November 1910 followed by Andrews’ death on 23 December 1912. They are buried at Riverside Cemetery, Oshkosh, WI.<br /> <br /> James, born 1826, baptised on 12 September 1826 at age seven weeks. He died in childhood.<br /> <br /> Ellen (Eleanor), born ca 1839. Prior to emigrating she worked as a domestic. In 1870 she was living with her sister Julia (Judith) from whose home in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, she married James McLeod on 21 August 1870. Eleanor died October 31, 1874. James was born March 9, 1842 and died March 9, 1881.<br /> <br /> Catherine baptised at age two months on 6 June 1841 by Father Egan. Her death certificate gives birth as 3 November 1841. She immigrated with her sister, Mary, to Wisconsin in 1882. She did not marry. In Milwaukee, WI on 11 November 1922, Catherine passed away at the age of eighty-one. She is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Oshkosh.<br /> <br /> Philip baptised 25 April 1843 by Father Aylward at the age of four weeks. On 10 January 1876, he married Winifred Maloney, born ca March 1848, daughter of John Maloney and Mary Shea of Barnaby River. They had ten children. It is reported that this was a love match that lasted throughout their lives. Philip inherited the homestead and built the existing house located on this property. He died in July 1903. Winifred died on 27 September 1922. Both are buried at the Most Pure Heart of Mary Cemetery, Barnaby River.<br /> <br /> Anne, born 29 January 1845, baptised 26 March 1845 by Father Egan. She was still living at home and unmarried in 1871. No further information was located.<br /> <br /> Date of Arrival: 1823 from Ireland<br /> <br />
