Discription of the issues related to this individual
Edward, was born 1 January 1831, and was baptised on 23 January of that same year. The baptism was officiated by Father Dollard and sponsors were Patrick Redmond and Eliza Beasley. A farmer and labourer, he married Sarah Power, daughter of Patrick and Catherine (Lee) Power on 19 September 1959. They had 10 children.
Catherine, born in Nowlanville in February of 1835, was baptised by Fr. Michael Egan on February 17 of that same year. Baptismal sponsors were Richard Sutton and Catherine Redmond. Catherine married Michael English on 22 November 1858. The son of George and Bridget English, Michael was born in Port Laoise, Ireland about 1824 and came to Canada in 1844. Catherine died 13 April 1909 and is interred at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Nelson, NB. Michael died 1 October 1908. They had 10 children.
Margaret, born in April and baptised on 25 May 1837. Baptismal sponsors were Pat McGraw and Catherine Cullin. Rev. Michael Egan performed the ceremony. On 12 September 1860, Margaret married Gregory Oates, son of Thomas and Anne (Martin) Oates. Margaret’s date of death is unknown, but it is believed she died before 1909 (the death date of her sister, Catherine). They had at least 4 children.
Michael, believed to be a twin of Margaret, was also born in April and baptised on 25 May 1837. He may have died as an infant because no further information has been located for him.
Mary, was born in November of 1838, but was not baptised until 10 January 1839 when that ceremony was performed by Fr. Richard Veriker, a priest newly arrived from Ireland. Baptismal sponsors were Steven Ryan and Mary Sutton. When Mary married Stephen Donaher on 10 February 1863, she was “a widow of Chatham”, but we have found no record of a first marriage for her (yet). Stephen, born about 1821 (and believed to be a half-brother to Thomas Gorman) may also have been married previously because they have a son Stephen, who was age 6 at the time of their wedding and Mary was living at the home of her parents in the 1861 census with no children listed. They had 8 more children born after the date of their marriage. Mary died on 9 March 1910 and is buried at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Nelson.
Date of Arrival: To Canada from Ireland in 1820.
