MEAGHER/MAHER/MAHAR, MICHAEL: born circa 1786 in Ireland, entered the colony with his wife Mary Kennedy, and family of at least four. He was listed in the 1851 Census as a Roman Catholic, and a School Master. He had farm property at Barnaby River but also lived in Chatham, probably later in life. According to their headstone in St. Michael’s RC Cemetery, Old Section, Chatham, Michael died 2 October 1868, age 82, and his wife Mary Kennedy died 17 July 1892, age 88. Many of his children, in the early 1900’s, moved to Bangor and/or Brewer, ME, USA.

Michael, Jr. born circa 1828 in Ireland, died 1915 in Brewer, Penobscot Co, ME. He married Ellen Amelia Regan, born Ireland, died before 1915 in Barnaby River, NB, on 14 January 1868 in NO Co. NB. Ellen was Post Mistress at Barnaby River in the late 1890’s until her death. They raised a family of ten in the Barnaby River area.
Joseph born circa 1831 in Ireland and died 21 May 1897, age 67. He lived with his parents. It is not known if he married. He is buried with his parents.
Margaret born circa 1835 in Ireland, died after 1871 in Barnaby River. She married William Martin on 15 November 1864 in Barnaby River, NB.
Martin born circa 1843 in Ireland, died 23 Jan 1904 age 61. He is buried at Most Pure Heart of Mary RC Cemetery in Barnaby River. He married Mary Bohan, born 1855, died 1934, on 20 June 1876 in Barnaby River, NB. He was a farmer. They raised a large family in the Barnaby River area.
Peter born circa 1847 in NO Co, NB. No record has been found of him after the 1861 Census, when he was 14 years of age and living with his parents.
Daniel born after 1847 in NO Co, NB. He was living with his parents in the 1871 Census, but nothing has been found of him since that time.
James Francis born circa 1850 in Chatham, NB. He married Margaret M. Donovan on 3 June 1873 in NO Co, NB. In 1901 he was working as a merchant in Barnaby River, NB.
Date of Arrival: with family in 1847, although research indicates an earlier visit.
