Baptist worship in Upper Blackville began in 1799, For 100 years membership grew. Brother Solomon, a Baptist missionary in the 1880’s, was responsible for the building of the Upper Blackville United Baptist Church in 1888 and the New Zion or Morehouse United Baptist Church on the Howard Road in 1889. The New Zion Church served the Baptists of the Howard Road area since that time. In the 1950’s the church was moved a few feet upriver, enlarged, and fitted with a basement. Today the New Zion Church is still part of the Upper Blackville Charge<br /> <br />
